Core Foundation

The goal of establishing CORE was to facilitate the expansion of orthopaedic research and education for the benefit of patients in the ACT region. The CORE model provides a not-for-profit entity for the accumulation of funds to drive world leading and future-focused care of patients with orthopaedic conditions. Orthopaedic Research in the ACT is well regarded. Since its inception in 2000, the Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit (TORU) has provided the knowledge and facilities to push out the frontiers of orthopaedic knowledge. This knowledge has been published in high impact orthopaedic journals and we have been acknowledged nationally and internationally for the work that is done here.

TORU was established in 2000 and has produced:

  • Evidence for bioactivity of nano-debris and their role in prosthetic loosening.
  • Highly accurate algorithms for measurement of knee joint movement.
  • Evidence for the pathophysiology of Gluteal Tendon Pain Syndrome and its relationship to osteoarthritis.
  • Ongoing discovery of implant materials and infection solutions.
  • Kinematic analysis of knee implants for optimization of outcomes.
  • Orthopaedic registrars who have trained in Canberra highly value the opportunities offered by our research and experientially rich environment. CORE will strive to contribute to the extraordinary Canberra orthopaedic training experience.

Continued education and growth of consultant and developing surgeons is crucial to excellent orthopaedic outcomes. CORE is committed to assisting surgeons and trainees to attend meaningful educational opportunities both in Australia and around the world Othopaedics needs industry partners. Our partners have always supported our research and education. CORE acknowledges the important role that they play in the growth and excellence of orthopaedics and welcomes their contributions.
